Welcome to the Greater Southwest Athletic Association!

Effective May, 2017, Roanoke City Parks and Recreation has made the following changes:

  1. Regions are now determined by what City Elementary School would serve your residential address.
  2. Football- Changed Age Divisions and added FLAG football for ages 5 and 6. 5 years old must be 5 on or by August 1 of the current year.
  3. Soccer- added U6 Age Division for 5 years old.  Must be 5 on or by August 1 of the current year.
  4. Basketball- new Age Cut-Off is January 1 (old was Oct 1) and added 5 years old by January 1 are eligible to participate.
  5. Baseball-  new Age cut -off is May 1st of the current season (old was Oct 1) and added 5 years old by April 1st are eligible to participate

Online Registration is open until deadline for GSA, Region IV, Southwest ONLY. 

Registration Fees (includes uniform):

  • $65.00 

Unpaid registration fees* or requests received after the deadline will be placed on a wait list and cannot be guaranteed placement.  There is a $10.00 LATE FEE.

Parents we need your help ~ please consider VOLUNTEERING to Coach or Assist Coach.  Indicate when registering AND please send GSA an email comerjulie1@gmail.com, if volunteering.

 

If a sufficient number of coaches are not available, we may not be able to honor all requests for participation. 

 

 Teams will be set up early July with a Coaches Draft and practices season opens the end of July.

Game Season is Sept – early Nov. (older Soccer age divisions might begin games in August)

 

Player Eligibility In partnership with Roanoke City Parks and Recreation Youth Athletics, there are 4 Roanoke City Regional Recreational Clubs that provide recreational teams for players that reside in Roanoke City. Your Roanoke City Club Region is determined by what City Elementary School would serve your residential address.

Region IV, SW, Greater Southwest Athletics serves addresses that fall under the following City Elementary Schools: Crystal Spring, Fishburn, Grandin Court, Virginia Heights and Wasena.  If a student goes to school out of their home school zone (i.e. for the PLATO program at Highland Park or the STEM program at Fishburn), they may choose to play for their home region or for their school region.

Player Evaluations:

SOFTBALL– who must attend?

  • all new players 9 years old and up (birth years 2008 and older)
  • All returning players who played on a B-Team in 2017
  • All returning players who are entering a new division (age group)

SOFTBALL– who does not need to attend?

  • 8U (coach pitch players do not try out)
  • Returning Players who played on an A-Team in 2017 and are returning to the same age group, may return to the same team and do not need to try out.

BASEBALL– who needs to attend?

  • All new players coach pitch and up
  • All coach pitch players
  • All returning players moving up to a new age group

BASEBALL –who does NOT need to attend?

  • Tball players (they will be assigned to teams)
  • Players returning to same age group as 2017

***Evaluations are designed to help balance the teams and promote competitive parity in the league***

Spring TEE BALL and BASEBALL
Eligible Ages:New-5 years old – Must be 5 by April 1st

New-Age on  MAY 1st of the current year (2018) for 6-12 years old

(Limits: No one younger than 5 years of age as of April. 1, of the current year or older than 12 years of age as of May 1, of the current year)

Ages will be determined as of May 1st, 2018 with the following exception – Five (5) year olds must turn 5 on or before April 1st.

Leagues:
Tee Ball – Five (5) and Six (6) Year Olds
Coach Pitch – Seven (7) and Eight (8) Year Olds
PeeWee – Nine (9) and Ten (10) Year Olds
Little – Eleven (11) and Twelve (12) Year Olds

Spring GIRLS SOFTBALL
Eligible Ages:  Ages will be determined as of Jan 1st, 2018

Age Divisions

U8 – Six, Seven and Eight years old

U10 – Nine and Ten years old

U12 – Eleven and Twelve years old

U16 – Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen and Sixteen years old

U18 – Seventeen and Eighteen years old.
