Football FAQ

What Equipment do we need?  
Each player will need football cleats. Uniforms, pads, and mouth pieces are provided.

Practices:
Practices are scheduled to begin the first week of August.  Practices are on weekdays, usually 4 days a week at Raleigh Court Park (fields beside Woodrow Wilson Middle School).

Games:
Games played at Rivers Edge Sports Complex and Reserve Ave Fields. Usually 1 to 2 games per week (including a Saturday game).  Game season runs early Sept – late October.  8 games are scheduled per regular season per team.  Roanoke Parks and Rec. will schedule the games and the coach or team parent is responsible for furnishing schedules to players and parents.  Schedules will be posted on Parks and Rec site once available:     www.roanokeva.gov/playonline   (then click on Leagues)

Cancellations:
Practice cancellations are determined by the coaches and it is their responsibility to notify their players. Game cancellations are determined by Roanoke City Parks and Rec – Cancellation Hot Line is 853-1196- updated 7:30am Sat. and 4pm weekdays

Play time:
Minimum of 6 plays per half per player.

Age Divisions:
Age on Oct 1, current year:

  • FLAG- ages 5, 6. 5 years old must be 5 on or before August 1st
  • Biddy- NEW ages: 7, 8
  • Pee Wee- NEW ages: 9, 10
  • Little – NEW ages: 11, 12

 

Limits:

5 years old – Must be 5 on or before August 1st

6-12 years old – Age on Oct 1st of the current year
